Basketball Recap: Belmont Beats Mooreville for Their Eighth Straight Victory

Belmont extended their postseason success on Thursday against Mooreville. They blew past the Mooreville Troopers, posting a 70-36 victory. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 20 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Belmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lamaya Southward, who went 8-for-13 en route to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Thanks to that strong game, Southward now owns an excellent 45.1% shooting accuracy. Mckinley Bennett was another key player, going 6-for-9 to rack up 18 points.

The win (which was Belmont's eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.1 points. As for Mooreville, they moved to 19-8 with that loss, which also ended their 13-game winning streak.

Belmont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-47 defeat against Jefferson Davis County on the 25th. Mooreville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
