Volleyball Recap: Pender Starts Season with Victory Against Fairmont

Pender took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They put the hurt on the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes with a sharp 3-0 win.

Jensen Bordeaux had a dynamite game, getting 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Gurganous, who had 27 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Pender was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Fairmont's loss came despite strong showings from Layla Hunt and Jerrian Taylor. Hunt had three digs and three aces, while Taylor had 14 digs and two assists.

Pender wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Wallace-Rose Hill on the 12th. As for Fairmont, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m.
