The Sayre Spartans suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Newport by a score of 45-42. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sayre has scored all season.
Deshaun Jackson jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Newport, scoring 13 points along with four steals and three blocks. Jabari Covington was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Newport, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.
Sayre will head out on the road to take on Scott County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Scott County has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. Newport will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Danville Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 26th.
