The Titusville Rockets will challenge the Girard Yellowjackets at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Titusville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Titusville was able to grind out a solid victory over North Star, taking the game 6-2.
Jaxon Covell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ian McDonald was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Adam Reynolds also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Titusville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Girard had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Franklin on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Titusville, Girard also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Kelley. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Kelley has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Kelley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Kalicky, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Titusville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Girard, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Titusville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Girard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Titusville skirted past Girard 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
