The Overhills Jaguars will head out on the road to take on the Pine Forest Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Overhills is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Last Friday, Overhills made easy work of Westover and carried off a 17-1 win. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tyrell Copper made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Copper was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Copper wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Danny Sykes, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Montrell James, who scored three runs.
Overhills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Pine Forest was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Triton 7-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.
Like Overhills, Pine Forest also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Temple. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Temple has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Pine Forest let J.J. Watson and Jayhlen Brown run wild. Watson scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Brown scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Overhills' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Forest, their record now sits at 12-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Overhills has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pine Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Overhills suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Pine Forest in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
