Softball Game Preview: Wauconda Bulldogs vs. Lake Zurich Bears

The Wauconda Bulldogs will face off against the Lake Zurich Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wauconda is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Round Lake with a sharp 25-7 win on Thursday. The Bulldogs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024 (when they won 20-0).

The team relied heavily on Ellary Nick, who went 4-for-5 with five runs, six RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Samantha Saldana was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

Wauconda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Round Lake only posted a batting average of .176.

Lake Zurich hadn't beaten Mundelein on the road since April 12, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Bears came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Alaina Krzeminski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Brianna Rubicz was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Wauconda's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-22. As for Lake Zurich, their win bumped their record up to 13-14-1.

Everything went Wauconda's way against Lake Zurich in their previous matchup back in May of 2016, as Wauconda made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
