Elbert faced Byers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Elbert took  a  36-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of Byers. The  defeat   continues a  trend for Elbert in their meetings with Byers: they've now lost three in a row.
 Ethan Tesman threw for 196 yards and one  touchdown.   Eli Cornell was his top target, picking up 112 receiving yards and one  TD.
 Byers got their  victory on the backs of several key players, but it was  Benjamin McPherson out in front who rushed for 74 yards and a pair of  scores. McPherson got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 55 yards.  Caleb Eastwood did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 92  receiving yards.
Elbert's  loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Byers, the  win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
