The Modesto Christian Crusaders''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They suffered a tough 48-24 defeat at the hands of Hilmar. Modesto Christian has struggled against Hilmar recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Modesto Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Bernard. Despite the final result, he picked up 162 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Bernard hasn't dropped below 100 receiving yards for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli'jah Cook, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Hilmar was led to victory by Logan Cardoso and Caden Bailey. Cardoso rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, while Bailey rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Bailey is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. John Labno got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Hilmar's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Modesto Christian's QB won't forget Dakota Maynard anytime soon given Maynard sacked him six times.
Modesto Christian's loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for Hilmar, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Modesto Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hilmar also has no future games currently scheduled.
