Poplarville extended their road winning streak to four games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Tylan Keys. In a tight match that could have gone either way, the Hornets made off with a 22-21 win over the Stone Tomcats with plenty of help from Keys, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of TDs. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 130 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Stone's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Green, who rushed for 91 yards and one score, and also threw for 96 yards and one touchdown. Amarion Fairley was another key rusher, rushing for 90 yards and one TD on only eight carries.
The victory got Poplarville back to even at 1-1. As for Stone, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.
Poplarville has already played their next contest, a 60-54 win against Hancock on the 12th. As for Stone, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 21-3 loss against St. Martin on the 12th.
