Haven is 9-1 against Hesston since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Swathers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Haven's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Moundridge with a sharp 15-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for Haven, who have now won seven contests in a row.
Avery Brawner and Emilyn Reese made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Brawner tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Reese pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brawner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Brawner got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Reese went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan O'Neal, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Yoder, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Haven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Hesston got the win against Hillsboro on Thursday by a conclusive 7-1. The win continues a trend for the Swathers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.
Brenlyn Richmond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Maci Kramer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Wendy Roth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Haven pushed their record up to 22-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hesston, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Haven hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .462. However, it's not like Hesston struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Haven's way against Hesston when the teams last played last Friday, as Haven made off with a 17-1 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Swathers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
