4A/3A Conference 17 recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A/3A Conference 17 this week, Hoggard beat West Brunswick 47-8. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Vikings.
South Brunswick lost to New Hanover 53-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Hoggard's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Xavier Johnson threw for 57 and 2 touchdowns and Trevor Brown had 34 yards receiving. On the ground Brown chipped in 130 yards. Harrison Smith helped Hoggard's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Scott Braswell's team's dynamic duo of Johnson and Brown proved tough for the Trojans to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith helped Hoggard's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Brown provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Vikings bested West Brunswick.
Kyle Delaney was a key player and the best on defense this week as Hoggard bested Scott Frazier's team. He racked up 3 sacks.
6-foot-1 quarterback Tariq Lane of Laney is the league leader in passing yards this season with 761. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Randall Emerson. The Hoggard star has 35 catches for 507 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Topsail takes on the Wildcats. At the moment, the Pirates are in fifth, while New Hanover is in second.
