Prout and Westerly are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to challenge the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Prout will be strutting in after a victory while Westerly will be coming in after a defeat.
While Prout's win against St. Raphael Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Crusaders skirted past the Saints 6-5. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Emma Manzo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Westerly faced Smithfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs came up short against the Sentinels, falling 7-1. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Dacia Gingerella made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Keegan, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Prout now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Westerly, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Prout's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Crusaders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Westerly, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Prout continue to outrun the ball?
Prout couldn't quite get it done against Westerly when the teams last played back in May of 2022 as they fell 6-1. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
