Camden County has gone a perfect 9-0 against First Flight recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Camden County beat Currituck County on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bruins.
Cayleigh Martin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kaitlynn Barnes was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Audrey Jones, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 22 runs the game before, First Flight was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell 6-1 to Manteo.
Riley Gilreath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Camden County's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average this season. As for First Flight, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Camden County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like First Flight struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
