The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas won the last time they faced the Space Coast Vipers, and things went their way on Wednesday too. New Smyrna Beach snuck past Space Coast with a 45-40 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for New Smyrna Beach.
New Smyrna Beach's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paris Thompson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Thompson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Hailee Mokwe was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Space Coast saw an underclassman step up: Phillayjah Carroll scored 18 points. Carroll hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Lashiya Walker, who scored six points.
New Smyrna Beach has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Space Coast, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
New Smyrna Beach will head out on the road to square off against Pine Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pine Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 529th, while New Smyrna Beach is ranked 187th). As for Space Coast, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Rockledge at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th.
