On Tuesday, Berwyn/Cicero Morton didn't have quite enough to beat Fenwick and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by just one run.
Daniel Gross was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Nathan Rubio was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Saint Ignatius College Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Holy Trinity on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Wolfpack in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
Ryan Sexton looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Jelinek, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Saint Ignatius College Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Nathan Sanchez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Berwyn/Cicero Morton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Berwyn/Cicero Morton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saint Ignatius College Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
