The Frontier Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Shenandoah 49-35. Given Frontier's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Shenandoah is ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frontier's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kelsey Dye led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Dye scored 15 or more points. Grace Knowlton was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Shenandoah lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brylee May. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. May hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Brown, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Frontier has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Shenandoah, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Frontier and Catholic Central will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Catholic Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. As for Shenandoah, they will head out on the road to face off against Buckeye Trail at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Buckeye Trail is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
