After two games on the road, Maria Carrillo is heading back home. They will take on The Saint Mary's Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Maria Carrillo got themselves on the board against Healdsburg, but Healdsburg never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Greyhounds 35-0 on the road.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary's blew past Richmond, posting a 57-6 win at home. Given Saint Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Richmond is ranked 1003rd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Elijah Hines, who rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus-jasiri Hughes, who rushed for 27 yards and two touchdowns.
Saint Mary's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Luke Swanson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four sacks himself.
Their wins bumped Maria Carrillo to 4-4 and Saint Mary's to 5-3.
Maria Carrillo came up short against Saint Mary's in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 19-7. Can Maria Carrillo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
