Softball Recap: Geraldine Has No Trouble Against Sylvania

Geraldine barely beat Sylvania the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went the Geraldine Bulldogs' way against the Sylvania Rams on Thursday as the Geraldine Bulldogs made off with a 16-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kennedy Cook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Geraldine got a big performance out of Shyla Thompson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cassie Burns, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Geraldine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sylvania only managed two hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Geraldine and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sylvania, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Geraldine will head out to take on Asbury at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sylvania, they will head out on the road to challenge Cherokee County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherokee County will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
