Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Big Walnut

Big Walnut came out on top against Westland on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Golden Eagles blew past the Cougars 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Grace Melton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Thornhill, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Big Walnut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Big Walnut, bringing their record up to 12-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-18.

Coming up, Big Walnut will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Westerville Central at 5:15 p.m. The Warhawks will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Westland, they will head out to challenge Upper Arlington at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
