After losing to Calumet Christian the last time they met, La Lumiere decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lakers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 10-4 victory on Monday. Brady Monaghan was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of La Lumiere's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Monaghan was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Josh Jaracz was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. La Lumiere is 5-2 when Jaracz posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sabastian Morris, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
La Lumiere kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.
The win got La Lumiere back to even at 6-6. As for Calumet Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
