SNELLVILLE, Ga. - After trading leads two times,
South Gwinnett (Snellville, Ga.) snatched the lead for good when it ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) 42-14.
The score was knotted at 14 heading into the half. The Comets took the lead for good on a touchdown run in the third quarter.
The loss snapped the Tigers' 4-game winning streak.
Sean Fowler played well for Archer. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 11 on the year.
AHS came in giving up 12.0 points per game this season. South Gwinnett came in allowing an average of 21.6 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding the Lawrenceville school well below its season average of 28.8 points scored per game.
A 24-21 South Gwinnett victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Archer, which notched a 42-0 victory over Berkmar in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Comets, which lost to Grayson last week, 41-0.
South Gwinnett (7-2) will play a AAAAAA Region 8 game against Brookwood next week, while Archer (6-3) will take on Grayson also in a AAAAAA Region 8 game.
