Softball Recap: Shorewood Has No Trouble Against Mountlake Terrace

After losing to Mountlake Terrace the last time they met, Shorewood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Stormrays were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Hawks on Wednesday. Considering the Stormrays have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Schilperoort was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Cailin O'Leary also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Shorewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountlake Terrace only posted a batting average of .160.

The victory made it two in a row for Shorewood and bumps their season record up to 12-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Mountlake Terrace, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Shorewood will face off against Edmonds-Woodway at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stormrays' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
