The Academy of the New Church Lions waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They strolled past Westtown with points to spare, taking the game 66-48. Given Academy of the New Church's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the are ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Academy of the New Church found their leader in underclassman Ryan Warren, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Waldon, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Academy of the New Church's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4. As for Westtown, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Academy of the New Church will be playing at home against the Friars at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Malvern Prep's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches. Westtown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
