If the North Cross Raiders were feeling good off their 56-21 takedown of the Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Cross was beaten by Virginia Episcopal School 65-19 on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for North Cross in their matchups with Virginia Episcopal School: they've now lost eight in a row.
North Cross' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Scout Kappes, who scored five points along with seven rebounds. Sara Ortaegui was another key contributor, scoring five points.
It was another big night for Sasha Brody, who scored 17 points along with six steals for Virginia Episcopal School. Another player making a difference was Nora Finch, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
North Cross' loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Virginia Episcopal School, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Cross will take on Southwest Virginia Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Southwest Virginia Academy will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Virginia Episcopal School, Virginia Episcopal School and Saint Gertrude will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
