On Friday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Geneva had to settle for a 42-40 defeat against Jackson.
Geneva's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Erica Torres, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The match was Torres' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaden Ward, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Jackson was led to victory by Erica Walton and Tyra Caves. Walton scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while Caves scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals. Caves set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Angel Powell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Geneva's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Jackson, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Geneva's road trip will continue as they head out to face McGill-Toolen at 4:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. McGill-Toolen will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Jackson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Harrison Central on December 30, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Harrison Central is ranked 21st in Mississippi, while Jackson is ranked 44th in Alabama).
