It was a good run, but The La Veta Redhawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 80-54 walloping at the hands of Branson/Kim. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Thursday (52), La Veta still had to take the loss.
Defeat or not, La Veta got some senior leadership from Jessey Montunnas who threw for 159 yards and six touchdowns and Brayden Nix who gained 239 total yards and three touchdowns. Vicente Vallejos also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Leading Branson/Kim to victory were Brock Doherty and Kolter Cranson. Doherty gained 272 total yards and five touchdowns, while Cranson rushed for 314 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 18.5 yards per carry. Cranson's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
La Veta's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Branson/Kim, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Veta will take on Kiowa at 1:00 p.m. on October 28th. As for Branson/Kim, they will head out on the road to face off against Cheyenne Wells at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Cheyenne Wells has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 149 points over their last three matches.
