Softball Recap: North Augusta Has No Trouble Against South Aiken

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lexington, North Augusta was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the South Aiken Thoroughbreds as they made off with a 10-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Eleanor Brummond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Lia Allen was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Geddes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Allen wasn't the only one making solid contact: North Augusta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Yellow Jackets are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

North Augusta pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Aiken, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

North Augusta and South Aiken will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Yellow Jackets see the field they'll take on Aiken at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for South Aiken, their break will end when they face Midland Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
