3A South Central recap Oct. 3, 2012
Lewis-Palmer's Sean Grundman rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A South Central this season in his game against Harrison last week. Grundman ran for 83 yards on the play and finished with 159 on the day as his team beat the Panthers.
Mitchell moved up to 152 from 181 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Marauders climbed the ranks as a result of a 20-14 win over Thomas Jefferson.
Wasson's dynamic duo of Richie Perea and DJ Hanes proved tough for Pueblo East to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Perea threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns and Hanes had 147 yards receiving. Nate Gessing helped Wasson's passing attack out by catching nine balls for 130 yards.
Aaron Wright was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 318 yards on 35 carries as Mitchell fell to the Eagles. Preston Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 17 yards on the ground.
Corbin Bender made the biggest impact on defense this week as Coronado bested Sierra. The 5-foot-10 junior grabbed two sacks.
Wasson's Perea and Hanes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A South Central in both passing and receiving yards. Perea has thrown for 1256 yards this season, while Hanes has 33 catches for 622 yards. Archie Malloy III's team's Wright leads the league in rushing yards with 737.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Discovery Canyon takes on Lewis-Palmer. As it stands, the Thunder are in first, while Tony Ramunno's team is in fourth.
The Rangers took down Harrison 54-19 last week, the largest margin of any game. Grundman caught two passes for 17 yards in the win.
