Salmon River is 2-8 against Gouverneur since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Salmon River Shamrocks will head out on the road to challenge the Gouverneur Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. Salmon River is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 112-31, which was the final score in Salmon River's tilt against Potsdam last Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Salmon River in their matchups with Potsdam: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Gouverneur pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Franklin Academy 60-55. While losing is never fun, Gouverneur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Franklin Academy is ranked 187th).
Despite their loss, Gouverneur saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Raine Rumble, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. Rumble has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Donaldson, who scored 13 points.
Salmon River's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Gouverneur, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Salmon River took a serious blow against Gouverneur in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 83-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rumble, who scored 26 points. Now that Salmon River knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
