Freeman Academy/Marion were the 31-28 winner over the Gayville-Volin Raiders when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Freeman Academy/Marion had to suffer through a rough 47-19 loss at the hands of Gayville-Volin.
Gayville-Volin found their leader in underclassman Jolie Westrum, who scored 12 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Westrum has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maia Achen, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Freeman Academy/Marion's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.1 points per game. As for Gayville-Volin, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freeman Academy/Marion will take on Andes Central/Dakota Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Andes Central/Dakota Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Gayville-Volin, they will be playing at home against Flandreau Indian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gayville-Volin is facing Flandreau Indian at the right time seeing as Flandreau Indian is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
