Baseball Game Preview: Model Patriots vs. Jackson County Generals

The Model Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Jackson County Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Model, who comes in off a win.

Model is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Owsley County on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Matthew Gorbett made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Kayden Wade and Levi Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Wade went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Adams went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most runs Wade has posted since back in April of 2024. Cal Hall was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Model always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Jackson County might've scored the first runs on Saturday, but it was Hazard who claimed the real prize. The Generals fell 8-5 to the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs. The Generals have struggled against the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

The victory made it two in a row for Model and bumps their season record up to 3-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Jackson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.

Model beat Jackson County 14-9 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
