The Glenbrook South Titans will take on the Maine South Hawks at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Glenbrook South turned things around against Evanston on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Wildkits by a score of 10-5. The game marked the Titans' most dominant win of the season.
Addy Hurley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Hurley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Glenbrook South got a big performance out of Ruby Garrett, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sophia Buckingham, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, while Maine South put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Highland Park. The Hawks put the hurt on the Giants with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Hawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 14-4).
Maine South also got a great performance from Sibelle Stevens as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Stevens has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Christina Piotrowski and Aubrey Mazza did most of the damage at the plate: Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Mazza went 1-for-2 with one home run. Peyton Santore was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Maine South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only managed one hit.
Maine South is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Glenbrook South, their victory bumped their record up to 3-16.
Glenbrook South skirted past Maine South 12-10 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
