It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Grimsley had no problem doing just that on Friday. They beat the Rolesville Rams by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 35-23. Grimsley's victory was all the more impressive since the Rams were averaging only 13.13 points allowed on the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grimsley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mitchell Summers, who rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Summers is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Faizon Brandon, who threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Grimsley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ryan Debow. Those two interceptions gave him a new career-high. Grimsley got some further help from Bryce Davis: he picked up four sacks and made ten total tackles.
Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Waddell, who picked up 112 receiving yards and one touchdown. Braden Atkinson was another key player, having thrown for 298 yards and three touchdowns.
