The Hillcrest Jaguars suffered their biggest defeat since January 4th on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-30 walloping at the hands of Monroe County. While losing is never fun, Hillcrest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while Monroe County is ranked 87th).
Hillcrest's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Arreon "Tweety" Lopez, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds, and Khloe Clark who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 43.3% of Hillcrest's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Hillcrest has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Monroe County, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.
Hillcrest the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome W.S. Neal at 4:30 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Monroe County, they will head out on the road to face off against Clarke County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
