Basketball Recap: Riverton Sets Scoring Season-High Against South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverton). They were the clear victor by a 71-51 margin over the South Bison on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wolverines have posted since January 5, 2024.

It was another big night for Malachi Smith, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 boards. Those 28 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Smith, who posted 13 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Riverton was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, South still got an impressive performance from Dominic Callahan, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 20 points and three steals. Callahan is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Fernandez, who had six points and five boards.

Riverton moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for South, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5.

Riverton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-40 loss against Sheridan on the 10th. As for South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-57 defeat against Rock Springs on the 10th.
