The Minneapolis South Tigers will take on the Washburn Millers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Minneapolis South 3.2, Washburn 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Washburn will be up against a hot Minneapolis South team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over St. Paul Central on Thursday. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Alex Menth was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Oliver Lindstrom, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Minneapolis South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Washburn has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.8 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against Richfield, falling 10-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Millers were not able to get on the board.
Washburn also got a good showing from Ezra Mcdill, who tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mcdill has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Washburn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dietrich Johanson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Minneapolis South's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Washburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Minneapolis South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washburn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Minneapolis South suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Washburn in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
