On Saturday, Blue Valley Southwest greeted the New Year with with a 52-37 victory over Pembroke Hill. Given Blue Valley Southwest's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 203rd in Kansas, while Pembroke Hill is ranked 413th in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blue Valley Southwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Unruh led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Payne, who scored 14 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Blue Valley Southwest and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Pembroke Hill, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Blue Valley Southwest will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against St. James Academy at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully St. James Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. Pembroke Hill's road trip will continue as they head out to face Pleasant Hill on January 8th. The timing is sure in Pleasant Hill's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Pembroke Hill has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
