Franklin extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jamestown Muskies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered against the Muskies since April 10, 2021.
Gabrielle Laderer was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Haven Goodman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
As for Jamestown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Jamestown's side, Miranda Biles was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). Biles has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jamestown let Grace Wingard and Kinlie Kirila run wild. Wingard went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Kirila got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Wingard has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Scriven, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Franklin will square off against rival Hickory at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Jamestown is set to face off against their familiar foe Grove City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
