Winnebago is 8-2 against Byron since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Indians will host the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Winnebago is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Winnebago is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering North Boone just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings.
Vern Gilley-Amdal put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had over her last seven games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Sammi Falnes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Byron never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Lutheran 10-0. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Lutheran's batters probably weren't too happy with Myla Draheim, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up zero walks). Draheim has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaidra Poe, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gina Baker, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Byron's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Winnebago, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Winnebago has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Byron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Winnebago's way against Byron when the teams last played back in April, as Winnebago made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
