Springfield has gone 6-1 against Struthers recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Struthers took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Springfield, who comes in off a win.
Springfield proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Poland Seminary 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since October 19, 2024.
Springfield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Struthers came up short against Poland Seminary on Thursday and fell 3-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
While Struthers ultimately came up short, they really made Poland Seminary work, particularly in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 17-25, 25-21, 26-24.
Springfield will need to focus on slowing down Elliana Benson, one of several Struthers players who made an impact when they last played. She had ten digs and two aces. Melyka West was another key player, getting 16 digs and two aces.
Struthers' defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Springfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Springfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Struthers in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
