Softball Recap: Armijo Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Armijo lost to Fairfield back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. Armijo came out on top against Fairfield by a score of 11-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.

Brooklyn Talbot made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angel Arias, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Gillis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Armijo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .323.

Armijo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armijo will head out to face off against Johnson at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Armijo's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fairfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
