After trading leads five times,
Mesa Prep (Mesa, Ariz.) snatched the lead for good when it threw a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Mayer (Ariz.) 44-28.
The Wildcats pulled ahead on a rushing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 20-18. Mesa Prep scored the winning points with a passing touchdown that came in the third quarter.
With the win MP extended its winning streak to six games. The Mesa school defeated the Lobos 38-0 last week.
Mesa Prep's most effective player was
Paul Varner. The junior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
The loss comes after Mayer defeated Paradise Honors 68-12 last week.
Mayer (2-4) will play a VI Section I (8 Man) game against Ash Fork next week, while Mesa Prep (6-0) will take on Mogollon in a VI Section II (8 Man) game.
