Baseball Recap: North White Takes a Loss

North White had lost seven straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it eight. They came up short against the Northfield Norsemen, falling 18-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Norsemen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-6 on Saturday.

As for Northfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Northfield's part, Caleb Dubois and Wyatt Bucher made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Dubois pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bucher tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dubois has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Dubois went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Bucher got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Dubois has snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Jacob Nesler looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Jaden Baer was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Northfield is 5-1 when Baer posts two or more runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Maddux Daniels, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North White will take on DeMotte Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Maconaquah at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
