Riverside has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Mountain View Lobos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Anthony scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, Riverside still came out on top. Riverside took their matchup against Anthony 63-56.
Riverside can attribute much of their success to Richard Arellano, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Arellano has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Jauregui, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Mountain View had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed by Clint on the road to the tune of 65-29. Mountain View pushed the score to 47-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Clint had little chance of recovering from.
Mountain View's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Devin Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Julian Escobedo, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Gonzalez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Matthew Slosar, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Riverside's victory bumped their record up to 8-15. As for Mountain View, their win bumped their record up to 7-17.
Riverside beat Mountain View 54-47 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mountain View's Alan Valenzuela, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Riverside to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
