The Pelion Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Saluda Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pelion is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pelion challenged Ninety Six on Friday. The Panthers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 9-7. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost five in a row.
Savanna Padgett was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alexia Hansen, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Saluda entered their tilt with American Leadership Academy on Friday with 12 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 13. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Patriots.
Kylee McGlohorn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kamryn Campbell was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base. Nyla Jordan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Saluda's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pelion, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Both Pelion and Saluda just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Saluda struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pelion suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Saluda when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
