2A Region 3 recap October 8, 2013
J.Z. George and Leland played the closest game in 2A Region 3 this week, with J.Z. George eventually emerging with a 22-16 victory.
Simmons took down Riverside 58-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
South Delta's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aric Davis threw for 91 and 1 touchdown and Terrale Washington had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Hakeem Johnson chipped in 102 yards. Kenneth Hunt helped South Delta's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 15 yards.
Tyshawn Conway was a passing and rushing force as West Bolivar topped the Bulldogs. He completed 4 passes for 75 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 47 yards. Conway's favorite target this week was Deguadereck Rice, who caught 3 passes for 65 yards.
Johnson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 102 yards on 21 carries as South Delta lost to the Eagles. Teammate Davis added to the ground attack by rushing for 22 yards.
South Delta's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 719 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Washington has 25 catches for 494 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Derrick Hooker's team takes on the Jaguars. The Bulldogs are in third place, while J.Z. George is in fourth place.
Joey Tompkins' team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,717 from 10,821. The improvement was the result of a 22-16 victory over the Cubs last week.
