The St. Francis Knights had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 69-60 victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
St. Francis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Camryn Golston out in front who scored 27 points. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Mya Wyatt, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Sacred Heart's loss came despite strong showings from Reagan Bender and ZaKiyah Johnson. Bender scored 20 points along with eight assists, while Johnson scored 19 points along with six rebounds. Johnson scored a full 31.7% of Sacred Heart's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Angelina Pelayo was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sacred Heart were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Francis only racked up seven assists.
St. Francis' win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Sacred Heart, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Francis and Valor Christian will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Valor Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 97th, while St. Francis is ranked seventh). Sacred Heart will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Meade County at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
