Pomona (Arvada, Colo.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 28-7 win over
Fairview (Boulder, Colo.).
The Panthers scored 14 points in the first quarter. Pomona scored on a touchdown pass by
Alec Feland to
Mitch Colin and a touchdown run by
Konner Burns.
PHS was up 14-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Burns in the first quarter.
The Arvada school expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The Panthers' lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by Burns.
Cameron Frazier made a difference for the Knights. The junior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Pomona's standout player in the win was Burns. He ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Fairview's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard pass from
Johnny Feauto to Frazier in the first quarter.
Coming into the game PHS had allowed 23.9 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding FHS well below its season average of 29.1 points scored per game.
Pomona also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 48-14.
The win was a nice bounce back for PHS, which lost to Ralston Valley last week, 30-22.
Fairview (4-4) will play a 5A North Metro game against Boulder next week, while Pomona (6-2) will take on Arvada West also in a 5A North Metro game.
