It was a good run, but the Rincon/University Rangers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sunnyside. Rincon/University has not had much luck with Sunnyside recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Rincon/University's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leila O'Dowd, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Daphne Safo who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 34.9% of Rincon/University's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Cameron, who scored four points along with three steals.
Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals for Sunnyside. Nidez-Acu?a is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alana Felix, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Rincon/University now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Sunnyside, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rincon/University will take on Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tucson High Magnet School will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Sunnyside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marana at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marana will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Sunnyside is ranked 14th).
