The Poland Knights will take on the Mountain Valley Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Poland has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Mountain Valley will arrive with four straight victories.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Poland and Lake Region have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Knights came up short against the Lakers, falling 10-2.
Olivia Rioux was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season.
While Mountain Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past St. Dominic 10-9.
Mountain Valley got a massive performance out of Madisyn McLean, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Hayden Chase was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Mountain Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Dominic only posted an OBP of .306.
Mountain Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for Poland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Poland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Poland's way against Mountain Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Poland made off with an 11-3 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
